Instant creation of tasks & events

On July 30, 2011, in Organizer +, by Bartosz Gonczarek

In standard calendars, in order to create an event you need to open 3 windows (Add event, title & location, start & end time). In Organizer+ you do the same in just one window and achieve more, while completing less information at the same time. Here’s why:

Human-readible tasks and events creation

Usually calendars offer you lots of dialog boxes to enter your calendar entry details. It’s unintuitive and time consuming. We took a different path; To create an event or task you can use one of two methods:

Method 1: Tap 4 icons associated with basic questions, such as:

  • WHEN – time and duration – select from separate window
  • WHAT – an activity or what is to be accomplished,
  • WITH WHOM – person associated, selected from address book
  • WHERE – location, described as address, coordinates or dropped pin in iPhone’s map.

Method 2: Use your iPhone keyboard to describe your task and therefore allow Organizer+ to give answers for the questions from the context of your description while you type.

We equipped Organizer+ with soft AI algorithms in order to save time during new-entry creation. For example: “11:00 call Paul and ask about sales” – will create a 15 minute event (Organizer+ assumes that a usual call takes 15 minutes) at 11 o’clock today,  associated with Paul in your address book.

Time-saving associations

Whenever AI creates an association it’s made with one purpose – to maximize your Organizer+ utility for daily usage. Let us demonstrate it to you with examples. Suppose you want to create an event and describe it as:

  • Tomorrow 09:00-10:30 meeting with Peter Sliwinsky – will result in creation of an event, represented by 3 icons (date, activity and person associated). The Event will be created in your default calendar for the following day with a duration of 1.5h (specified by user). One of the icons will display Peter Sliwinsky (if Peter exists in your address book) and will be interlinked with his entry so you can call Peter directly from Organizer+ while,  let’s say – you’re rushing to be on time.
  • 05.01.2012 2:00 PM meet Peter Sliwinsky – will result in the creation of an event, represented by 3 icons with a duration of 1 hour (since there’s no indication when meeting ends – Organizer+ assumes that an ordinary meeting takes approximately 1 hour). Organizer+ also adjusts to your regional time/date format so 05.01.2012 2:00 PM using iPhone US regional format will be recognized the same as 1.05.2012 14:00 using European settings.
  • 10:00-12:00 Drive to Vienna, Praterstrasse – will create a 2 hour event with the “drive” icon and geolocation icon, which once tapped – will bring up GoogleMaps and show you your given destination (in this example – Vienna, Praterstrasse). Part of the description that appears after  “at”, “in” or “to” will be recognized as location, therefore it’s best to write it at the end.
  • Jogging with Alice – will create a task represented by 2 icons – “jogging” and “Alice – the person to which Organizer+ will create a link in your addressbook. Since there’s no indication of date – iconiCal will remember the reference to the calendar selected during task creation but will not position this new entry in your calendar. Later you can move your tasks to a calendar and use them as calendar events  – see the next chapters to see how to do it.
